Outsourcing to India

Outsourcing jobs to India..

That would be that last thing that I thought would affect me (considering am a brown guy). Today I was in the kitchen (at work) trying to get the coffee machine working. A new face came and introduced himself, he said that he was from Infosys (Microsoft of India). After a brief introduction abt each other & what shit we do, he said "I am here to replace Mr.X" I was shocked, Mr.X has been working here for so many years. I said "What do you mean replace, he has been here for so many years". This was his answer: "I know but we are outsourcing everthing to India, soon we will take over every I.T. dept., that's our job".

I think I have to start looking for a job soon. May be in India. :)

Medieval Manor and Indian Restaurent

My company hosted a party at the Medieval Manor, Boston. It was a great party. Totally new to me, they had a play and feast. Here is something from their website:

Alright, so the medieval manor was friday night. I was little sober that night, managed not to get drunk a lot. I got up on sat. and went to this Indian Restaurent which totally reminded me of my home town - Chennai, India. They had tamil (which is my native language) music playing in the backgrounds, the food complimented the whole atmosphere. I had 'Vatha Kozhambu', AMAZING stuff. Its been a while since I had good authentic south indian food. I was super excited the whole day. Reminded me of India.

Good Movie

I watched a tamil movie today, 'Chitiram Pesudhadi', I would say that its one of the best movies that I have watched in the recent past. The whole movie crew was freshers but the story was very good.

I was seriously impressed when I heard the story of the guy who sung the song "Vaazha Meen". He has literally come from living in a hut to singing for AR Rahman (God of Indian Music in current terms) in his album 'Machi'. It seems that this guy used to sing for marriages and death ceremonies. No matter who he is or what class of songs he sings, his effort from 0 to hero should be appreciated.

Yearly Review Coming up!

Its funny, last monday I was feeling F'd up in life but today I am feeling better. I think its because of the good reviews that I have been getting from my business users to whom I delivered a new s/w release.

"s/w release" thats my entire life and I am starting to hate it. Bugs, software releases, and patch releases - those words haunt me during the nights.

I got a yearly review coming up this month. I am sure I would do good on it but not sure how much pay raise I will get. It better be good cuz when I was reviewed last year, I seriously outqualified all the items that satisfied a level above me but they denied me the position because I was only one yr old with the company. If I get denied this year, I will seriously start looking into the market. If you need a good database guy, its me :).
