Job Interview

Today I attended an interview with a new company. I think it is a bold move for me because there are risks attached. My current job is secure till 2011 but the pay scale is not as great as the one that I am applying. The position that I applied is a temp to perm position which essentially means that they would hire me for 6 months to see if I suck and if I don’t, they hire me. It also means that I have to work my @ss off to secure the position. Why do I want to leave the current job? Cuz I get a 50% raise. Also I don’t have any family/commitments so I think it is a good time to take ‘calculated’ risks.

This position would be in downtown Boston or close to downtown, which I always wanted to experience. Having lived in Tennessee and Connecticut, I have never experienced a daily life at a big metropolitan.

The interview went on good; we talked about lot of technical stuff. Actually if I think about it, I was the one who talked for most of the time. He asked me a few questions which I was not able to answer but those were for core smart @ss people which I am not. There were two competitors for this job, one of them has a degree from MIT and has 20 yrs experience, and the other guy is a Russian who is also good. I don’t know how I fair among these big fishes.

Will they hire me? Will let you all know in the next blog entry. There are lots of other things to consider, even if they think that I am technically strong. One main reason is my temporary work permit in US. The US allows illegal immigrants to enter its borders, sell drugs, and apply for a citizenship and worse even get citizenship. I have been a law abiding ‘temporary resident’ since I have been in this country. Still I have to face so many problems/obstacles. You may wanna ask me why I don’t wanna consider going back to my country. Answer: I don’t get the same pay as I get here and I have lived here for more than 5 yrs now so I am more used to here now.

This Monday I would know about my job results (Hopefully). Hope it works out. It also means that I am close to where I operate my personal business. Sh!t that reminds me, this Monday I have exterminators coming to my house so I have to work all weekend and get stuff ready for them to raid my apartment. Life sucks!

Bed Bugs

Recently I have been having bed-bugs in my apartment so I talked to the management as they are supposed to clean it up. At first they said "sure no problem" but when the exterminators quoted a $500 bill, they wanted me to pay for it.

I would never pay for it; it is not even my house. Now they are blaming that I brought the bed bugs into the apartment, as they are not generic to United States. I am seriously offended by what they said.

So I send them this link CNN - Jan 23rd 2006 but they do not have a computer so I print them the news.

Waiting to see what they come up to blame me.

There must be a way to sue them for what they put me through but suing is a tough thing for a brown guy.

Know your limits

I was on a net-meeting session with a business analyst today. I took control of her computer via netmeeting and I was explaining her stuff on chat. All I did was type "MyName you suck it blue" on the chat window (on my chat window with her so it looks like she is typing it to me) and she was like "I really appreciate it if it doesnt happen again".

WTF so I write her an apology mail:

I apologize for what happened today. I didn't mean to offend you, I just did it for fun. If you think that it should be reported to N* or E*, Please do so. I believe I am answerable to what happened.

Apologies accepted. I will obviously not report this cause I would hate to jeopardize anybody's position and u have already apologized. I don't mind if you joke but I think you understand my limits too. Forget it. Let's put it behind us

"jeopardize anybody's position" haha that was funny.. I would have replied "try it b*****" .. May be I need to grow up. Didn't realize that such a small thing would trigger a monster... You can never predict an Indian Woman, especially a business analyst with a MBA..

2005 Acheivements

Nope, not what you think. This blog is not going to be about my 2005 achievements but about my company’s achievements. I managed to jump into the contributors list. The picture that they showed in the slide show to say a ‘few’ things about me was a retarded version of my pic in my license. Either way they looked the same.

Code Monkey

What have I become? It used to be really exciting when I first started working but now my life is nothing but a representation of "The Office" movie. I like to do stuff really fast and efficient and get done with it but things around me seems to be going Really (with a capital R) slow, when asked, they say it is a common thing in big companies...

There is nothing innovative or new in what I do these days at work. I am starting to hate coding. It has become more like a physical job than a mental one, sometimes makes me think if I should change my career path.

Have I become just another 'Desi in U.S'? only time will tell the tale. Hoping for something to happen by the end of this year.

King Kong and Apaharan

Don't get confused with the title, those are the two movies I watched last night.

King Kong was B.A.D. the movie dragged forever and there were lot of unnecessary crap in the movie... The graphics was horrible.. I mean seriously horrible.. they did not even take care of the "match color" stuff... I think I wasted my movie pass...

Apaharan was a good movie, class acting by Nana patekar... One bad movie was compensated by a good one so a little satisfaction...
